Montana’s camp is accused of trying to cheat the chart system to propel his single ‘Writing on the Wall’ to glory because it failing to fly commercially.
The single enjoyed a short run on the Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at #56 following its release on September 27th 2019.
Last week, the song managed to find its way back into the Spotify charts much to the delight of fans who feared its best days were behind it.
Alas, some consumers suspect something suspicious is afoot as Spotify is the only platform is faring well on.
The theory? French’s team is hacking Spotify accounts and using them to spin the song.
He isn’t the first musician accused of using tech wizards to game the system.
Back in 2013, Tamar Braxton was accused of doing the same when her single ‘Love & War’ peaked at #1 on iTunes but failed to impact the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 days later. Worrying, as iTunes was the biggest music retailer at the time.
French is yet to respond.
