K. Michelle gets all sorts of candid on new single ‘Just Like Jay.’
Lifted from forthcoming album ‘All Monsters Are Human’ (due Friday), the track sees the R&B songstress wax honest about the critique levelled her way and asks frankly “maybe I should fade to black…just like Jay.”
Directed by Zachary Greaton, the clip follows the visual for ‘The Rain’ – which has racked up 11 million views and performed well on the Urban Adult Contemporary format.

She could’ve been an UAC Queen but chose scripted reality tv instead. She was never destined for mainstream America music wise but UAC couldve been her lane, especially with the national weekly exposure she was getting. Instead, she spent the best years of her career Instagram and Twitter trolling and dragging a Tamar beef to death. Not to mention the Memphiz situation, which she couldve used help battered woman and cling to the “charity music buyers” but instead, it was the complete opposite. Her and Tamar managers and labels let they ass run a ratchet ass mess and neither lasted a decade (hell, Tamar is in her 3rd failed decade).
K’s music has lasted babe.
This is not the 90s and early 2000s where musicians could stay in their UAC lane and sell records. Either you crossover to Mainstream Urban radio or HAC formats or you’re dead. K Michelle tried for years to take off without reality TV and it never happened. She did what she had to do to get her music, which happens to be great, on a wider platform.

And I’m a Tamar fan but Girl…just focus on TV. What sad is she was capable of selling decent for a R&B artist but choose 90’s R&B in this Urban/Streaming era and wondered why it didn’t sell. Also it took her 25 years to become comfortable singing outside of church and it’s still hit or miss.
It’s really sad, her team should’ve done so much better, she should’ve stayed away from shows and stayed humble. Love her voice for country music, she could’ve chosen the Nashville lane etc instead of being so loud, so rachet, so tacky. Her voice would do so good on country but idk if this song is it, lyrics are deep yet dumb down. Idk hope she change her name her image her team.

‘K.Michelle’ sounds tacky, and immediately conjures up images of a ratchet reality TV star. She should go by ‘Kimberly’ and leave it at that.
Kimberly Pate does sound like a country pop singer’s name haha but she has ranted on and on about labels unwillingness to market a black woman in the country music business.

All the autotune she uses is overwhelming. It takes away from the music. Not like she needs it because she can actually sing. She didn’t use ANY autotune on her first album, and very minimal on her second. Now it’s like she drenches her music in it. I don’t understand.
For the most part I like K Michelle’s discography. But something about her lyrics and music gives off a little corny. This song is corny. If this is the route she’s trying to take with Country I can tell you now it’s not gonna work. This song is very victimy, why do ppl hate me, all about me type sh*t. Country music is relatable and spellings to general audiences. They’re not gonna care for this or understand it. Just to be honest. I was rooting for her tho. Hopefully something will give.
