Rihanna‘s strides in music, acting, fashion, and philanthropy may have made her a shoo-in for the President’s Award at the 51st annual NAACP Image Awards (February 22), but her modest yet stirring acceptance speech only confirmed why she was most worthy of the honor.
“Tonight is not really about me, because the purpose is bigger than me, right?” she said upon accepting her award. “It’s not bigger than us together, but it’s bigger than me, because my part is a very small part of the work that is being done in this world and the work that is yet to be done.”

I’m not the biggest Rhianna fan (the only album in her catalog I would keep would be “ANTi”, maybe a few singles), but I will admit that I’m very proud of her for showing up and being genuinely grateful. Especially this this would be considered a smaller award show and a black award show. Some artist brag about being pro-black but wouldn’t be caught dead at a black award show unless they were performing but will spend the entire night at a predominantly white award show and the after party ? (dont give a damn if she is one of my faves). Rhianna earns herself another 2 cookies from me today, now where’s the damn album? I need “ANTi V2”!
