Much like her idol, Queen of Pop Madonna (click here to read more), March 27 marks the anniversary of one of Pop Princess Britney Spears‘ most enduring classics.

Two decades after releasing ‘Oops!… I Did It Again,’ the lead single from her history-making sophomore album of the same name, she took to Instagram to celebrate:

Oops!….how did 20 years go by so fast ??? ?!??! I can’t believe it. I remember that red suit was so freaking hot …. but the dance was fun ?? and it made the shoot fly by !!!!! And now we’re sitting in quarantine wishing we were on Mars ? ….. of course I am just kidding !!!!! But seriously you have all shown so much support for this song and I thank you for it …. sending love to you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️ !!!!!

Produced by Max Martin, ‘Oops,’ released March 27, 2000, acted as a turning point in the then-18-year-old singer’s career.  Beyond showcasing her sexual maturity in its accompanying Nigel Dick-directed visual (thanks to that flaming red latex catsuit that added yet another costume into the young singer’s growing wardrobe iconography), the big budget clip also upped the ante for her videos that followed.

Serving notice that the mega-success of her debut album, ‘Baby One More Time,’ was far from a fluke, the Gold-certified single peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 (but topped charts in over a dozen countries around the globe).

Nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2001, ‘Oops’ stands tall on the list of the singer’s favorites among fans.

  6. Justme March 28, 2020

Britney spears actually would be at the top of the best selling artist of all time, but she hasn’t recertified her singles now that the streaming era is here. Beyonce is the same. There are artist that think they are the top when these two women are actually. Idk. I guess it doesn’t matter as much to them

    • TC March 28, 2020

They will do it when launching new albums as a means of drumming up interest. Nicki did the same thing.

  7. I love big black c** March 28, 2020

    • Shayla Queen ? March 28, 2020

I love Britney but DAYUMM ? Learn to laugh people.

  8. Michelle Branch HotelPaper March 28, 2020

I’m sorry but Christina’s Come On Over (All I Want Is You) is better and it actually peaked @#1 vs OIDIA which peaked @ #9

    • Only Facts March 28, 2020

What a girl wants isn’t as iconic as oops. And who cares about chart positions? Done if Britney’s most iconic songs didn’t hit #1. This is what’s wrong with fans and people in the music industry now – they only care about charts. The 90’s and early 00’s didn’t focus on that ?.
