New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement today during a press briefing.
He confirmed that the annual extravaganza would proceed as planned at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 30th.
The verbatim comment was made as he revealed that New York City is set to enter Phase III of reopening on July 6th – following the mandatory lockdown put in place to deal with the global health crisis.
Interestingly, the slide in the backdrop stressed “the event will follow all safety guidance, including limited or no audience.”
The news comes after fellow Viacom channel BET became the first major entity to air an award show virtually in the wake of the pandemic.
That show fused pre-produced segments together into a widely-praised production. As such, it will be intriguing to see what MTV cook-up, especially as it looks like there’ll still be limits as relates to the traditional audience configuration.
