Elton John‘s ex-wife Renate Blauel has filed a lawsuit against him.
Learn more below…
Ms. Blauel is suing the singer for $3.8 million because she believes that he broke the terms of their divorce agreement.
She claims that sections of his book (and its supporting movie) ‘Rocketman’ spill details on their marriage and divorce in a way which has impacted her mental health.
According to the BBC, Blauel was not asked if she wanted to be included in the story and found herself fearing for her safety when a journalist stormed into her village to quiz her on her ties to the ‘Candle in the Wind’ icon.
Her lawyer, Yisrael Hiller, explained…
Renate is particularly upset by the film. In her mind, the film seeks to portray their marriage as a sham, which she wholeheartedly disputes and considers a false and disrespectful portrayal of their time together.
Renate wants the privacy that was promised to her – that is why she is seeking an injunction. Any claim for monetary relief is secondary, and would just cover damages and future expenses caused by Elton’s breaches.
A source close to the singer countered with…
Elton is shocked and saddened by Renate’s claim after 30 years of a mutually amicable and respectful divorce, especially as he has only ever praised her publicly.
