Trey Songz is back.
The R&B crooner celebrates Black love in the video for new single ‘Circles.’
Like most of the singer’s efforts, his latest is rooted in romanticism. However, both the track and its accompanying visual serve as a maturation of his tried and treaded sound – with a core narrative permeating throughout.
Check out the visual for ‘Circles,’ which follows ‘Riots 2020: How Many Times’ and Summer Walker assisted ‘Back Home,’ below…
While Trey isn’t re-inventing the wheel with this, it is encouraging to see him expand his lyrical and visual approach.
There’s no denying the likes of ‘Say Ahh’ and ‘Bottoms Up’ are party essentials, but it’s refreshing to see Mr Songz sing about…more.
In many ways, it’s almost full circle as he set sail with material that was more rounded on his 2005 debut ‘I Gotta Make It.’ A project we’ve long loved here at TGJ.
Trey is still a yummy snack. Idc how f:u:c:k:e:d up is his life is
This is some proper R&B. Welcome back Trey!
I absolutely love this video, it’s almost like a great movie! I not to crazy about the song as a lead single, seems more like an album track or a promotional track. But it definitely feels like vintage Trey Songz. Those great contemporary R&B songs that made him a verified star before he went all Hip Hop Sing/rap and tarnished his credibility. If this is indication that we’re getting old Trey back, im on board!
I don’t care for this song in particular, but I do look forward to an album, and it’s good to see him making music again. And not club music, but r&b music. We don’t talk about him enough, but he consistently makes great r&b music, that’s traditional without being too old. Video was cute though.
I’m still waiting for a Trey/Jhené song. And an original Trey/Summer song would be nice. Trey/Megan. And another Trey/J Cole song. I’m tired of hearing Ty Dolla sign on everything.
Trey is consistent. Not one lousy album under his belt.
It’s sad to see how far trey has fallen. Seems like that last album did irreversible damage to his career
Sadly his career is over!
Nice song.
