Christina Aguilera Praises Madonna & Beyonce / Teases New Album

Published: Friday 18th Sep 2020 by Rashad

In celebration of its September 4 release, Christina Aguilera has been hot on the promo trail for Disney’s live action remake of ‘Mulan’ for which she serves as the voice behind two of its soundtrack’s most important numbers:  ‘Loyal Brave True’ and the 2020 remake of her classic, ‘Reflection.’

Taking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe Thursday (September 17). the GRAMMY winner not only reflected on the impact of the film’s original animated adaptation but also discussed its impact on her career specifically as it helped launch her as one of the most celebrated voices in Pop music history.

While strolling down memory lane, Aguilera dished on that infamous 2003 MTV VMA lip-lock with Britney Spears and Madonna (whom she referred to as ‘the Queen of reinventing herself), her longtime love of Beyonce, and so much more.

ON MADONNA:

“Madonna, first of all, the queen of reinventing herself, was a huge inspiration,” she shared. “When I was little, I was not allowed to listen to her or watch her videos or anything. It was just like a no-no, but then whenever you grow up, and I discovered her catalog and her videos and the fact that she had such a message.”

“Truly, the way you see her image changed through the albums. I mean, that was a big inspiration for me to want to change it up, to want to keep pushing, to grow, to reinvent myself, to discover more things about me and myself as an artist,” Aguilera continued.

ON BEYONCE:

“I have so much respect for Beyoncé. She always kind of stands in that lane of being true to her and what works for her [by] putting herself out there as such an empowering role model and figure for women as well,” she exclaimed. “I love women that speak to women, being such a voice of empowerment. ‘Girls Who Run The World,’ I remember that being a Major Lazer song and I was obsessed with it. And I was like, ‘Oh man, Beyoncé went and took Major Lazer and made it, ‘Girls, who run the world?’ I was like, ‘What?’”

Reportedly hard at work on her new album, Xtina seems to be making progress toward keeping her promise that there won’t be ‘a long break’ between her previous LP – 2018’s critically acclaimed ‘Liberation’ – and the forthcoming project.

When quizzed on the status of the yet-titled effort, she revealed:

“I’ve been in the studio all of quarantine, actually, experiencing new people, new relationships, new writers, COVID-safe, of course,” she confirmed. “I’ve had a lot of time to think and to reevaluate some things around me during this time… if you can stay, I think, grounded in your own truth and being able to put a stop to what’s making you unhappy and being able to really pinpoint it, and you can come out of there in a really cool place. So yeah, I’m making music that is really meaningful to me right now.”
