It’s true; ‘Love Lies’ is the gift that keeps on giving for its creators Khalid and Normani.
Produced by Charlie Handsome, the 2018-released cut – found aboard the soundtrack to the 2018 hit film ‘Love, Simon’ – not only collected a slew of awards at its height (including ASCAP, BMI, and iHeartRadio trophies) but also serves as both singers’ first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 as leading acts.
A global hit as evidenced by its Platinum (or higher) standing in Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and more, its greatest success has been found in the duo’s native USA where it recently saw its certification status upgraded yet again.
Details inside:
Last week, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) updated its logs to reveal ‘Love Lies’ is now 5x Platinum in the United States. The status denotes sales equivalence of at least 5 million in the country.
For Normani, the win comes as her highest certification to date as it bests the performance of the 2x Platinum ‘Dancing with a Stranger’ (with Sam Smith) and the 1x Platinum success of her solo single, ‘Motivation.’
For Khalid (who boasts 15 singles to his credit certified Platinum or higher), the win comes as his second highest certification to date and follows the 7x Platinum success of his 2017-released hit ‘Location.’
