Not even two weeks after finding out his hit song, ‘All of Me,’ had tied Luis Fonsi‘s blockbuster 2017 hit, ‘Despacito’ (as we reported here), EGOT winner John Legend has learned those 13x Platinum hits are welcoming another name to their exclusive club: Lil Nas X‘s ‘Old Town Road.’
Details inside:
X, who rode ‘Road’ into Hot 100 history books last year when the song reigned atop the tally for a whopping 19 record-setting weeks (as we reported here), has watched the Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted song become one of the most successful of all time – a nod reaffirmed by the Recording Industry Association of America Wednesday (October 28) when the organization awarded the tune its latest certification upgrade.
Now sitting at 13x Platinum (denoting sales equivalence of 13 million in the United States), ‘Road’ sits alongside Legend’s ‘All of Me’ and Fonsi’s ‘Despacito’ in a three-way tie for the most certified singles of all time.
The stat adds to a long list of historic achievements by ‘Road’ including ‘best one-week streaming in history’ (143 million) and three highest one-week streams in history as the song achieved over 100 million streams a week at the height of its popularity. [source]
