With the GRAMMY nominations being announced on Tuesday (November 24), The Weeknd, Harry Styles, and Post Malone are poised to be among this year’s most nominated artists. Each of them could score a nomination in Album, Record and Song of the Year.
However, the likes of Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, and Taylor Swift may well be hot on their tails in a number of key categories.
With each of these categories including eight nominees, join us below as we reveal our predictions…
Album of the Year
Dua Lipa, ‘Future Nostalgia’: Again, one of the year’s most critically-acclaimed albums, but ‘Nostalgia’ has the chart and single success to boot.
The Weeknd, ‘After Hours’: After scoring two #1 singles with this album, (‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’) The Weeknd could secure his second album of the year nomination.
Post Malone, ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’: A string of successful singles could carry this album to be Malone’s second nomination in this category.
Harry Styles, ‘Fine Line’: Listed by Rolling Stone as one of their 500 Greatest Albums, it will surly snag Styles his first nomination in this field.
Taylor Swift, ‘Folklore,’: After being shutout of the major categories for the majority of her last two albums, (she did receive a nomination for song go the year in 2020) Swift may make her welcome return to this field.
Lady Gaga, ‘Chromatica’: Gaga has always been a GRAMMY favorite and her return to Dance-Pop was met with huge acclaim and the successful singles ‘Rain on Me’ with Ariana Grande and ‘Stupid Love.’ When paired together, she will most likely form a recipe for a nomination.
Fiona Apple, ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’: Apple made waves this year with one of the most critically-acclaimed albums of the year and therefore, will most likely secure a nomination.
The Highwomen, ‘The Highwomen’: Comprised of Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, and Amanda Shires, this all-female country group saw large amounts of acclaim for their debut album.
Record of the Year
Billie Eilish, ‘Everything I Wanted’: After sweeping the Big Four categories in 2020, Eilish stands a chance of once again wining for Record of the Year with this successful tune.
Post Malone, ‘Circles’: Preciously, Malone has been nominated in this field in each of the last two years, so he will more than likely be a contender with this radio-dominating song.
Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyoncé, ‘Savage’: After topping the Hot 100 earlier this year, ‘Savage’ is well positioned to become only the third all female collaboration to score a nomination for record of the year.
Harry Styles, ‘Adore You’: A similar case to ‘Circles,’ this song ruled the radio this year, so it would be unsurprising if it snagged a nomination.
The Weeknd, ‘Blinding Lights’: Met with equal amounts of critical-acclaim and chart success, The Weeknd scored the biggest hit of his career with this song and will most likely score a nomination here.
Maren Morris, ‘The Bones:’ Rarely has a Country song made such moves at Pop radio, therefore, this track (produced by GRAMMY favorite Greg Kurstin) will likely land Morris her second-ever nomination for record of the year.
Dua Lipa, ‘Don’t Start Now’: Released late last year, ‘Don’t Start Now’ has become Lipa’s biggest chart hit to date and topped out at #2 on the Hot 100.
Taylor Swift, ‘Cardigan’: Generally, the GRAMMYs tend to include an indie song in this category, so Swift’s ‘Cardigan’ is surely their candidate this year. Produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner, this song saw Swift pivot from bright pop to darker sounds and was met with critical acclaim.
Song of the Year
‘Adore You,’ Harry Styles: The eclectic star earned acclaim and commercial success with this infectious smash hit. A combination that has proven potent with nominations.
‘Blinding Lights,’ The Weeknd: The Weeknd, whose presence on the nominations list is sure to be seismic, is well place to earn his first nomination in this category thanks to his co-writing credit on the song.
‘Cardigan,’ Taylor Swift: Co-written with Aaron Dessner, Swift could repeat back-to-back song of the year nominations (last year she was nominated for her song ‘Lover’).
‘I Can’t Breathe,’ H.E.R.: In a year of so much turmoil, H.E.R. – a GRAMMY darling – stands a chance of scoring a nomination with this socially conscious anthem.
‘Everything I Wanted,’ Billie Eilish: Eilish took home this award in 2020 for her co-writing credit on ‘Bad Guy.’ Now she looks to potentially do it again as this song will most likely be nominated.
‘Circles,’ Post Malone: The GRAMMYs have shown love to Post Malone and that will mostly likely help land him a nomination here for co-writing this smash.
‘Murder Most Foul,’ Bob Dylan: Another GRAMMY favorite, this legendary songwriter could return to the major categories this year.
‘Don’t Start Now,’ Dua Lipa: The GRAMMYs tend to sway between critical and commercial success, so when you have a song that has both, it will most likely land a nomination. Case in point: ‘Don’t Start Now.’
Best New Artist
Megan Thee Stallion: If Megan gets nominated and wins, she will become the first female Hip-Hop artist since Lauryn Hill to win in this field.
Doja Cat: After scoring a #1 song this year with ‘Say So,’ Doja will more than likely see herself nominated in this field.
BlackPink: With huge hits such as ‘Ice Cream’ and ‘Lovesick Girls,’ BlackPink could become the first K-Pop group to score a nomination in this category.
Conan Grey: After releasing the critically-acclaimed and superb album, ‘Kid Krow,’ Grey’s songwriting talents could lead him to a nomination here.
Summer Walker: Walker was previously nominated for Best New Artist at the BET Awards and is a strong contender to follow it up with a nomination at the GRAMMYs.
Morgan Wallen: An undeniable Country music force, Wallen has amassed four top 20 hits on the Hot 100, a feat not easy for a Country artist.
Gabby Barrett: Another Country music singer, Barrett landed the top 5 hit ‘I Hope’ this year and could become the first country artist to win in this category since Carrie Underwood did 14 years ago.
Phoebe Bridgers: The GRAMMYs love an indie act, so Bridgers makes the most sense this year since her album ‘Punisher’ was met with large amounts of acclaim.
