If continued fan consumption is anything to judge by, ‘Yummy’ is an apt title for the lead single from Justin Bieber‘s fifth studio album, ‘Changes.’
Granted, the LP has proven itself to be his slowest selling to date but its singles – namely ‘Yummy’ and the Quavo-assisted ‘Intentions’ – have been the era’s saving graces. Such is especially the case with the latter which was certified 2x Platinum, peaked at #5 on the Hot 100, and ended the year at #18 on the year-end charts.
Now, its predecessor is catching up to its ranks as it relates to certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Details inside:
A month ago, the RIAA updated its logs to report ‘Yummy’ had crossed its threshold for double Platinum (meaning it’s sold 2 million copies in the United States). This week, the Chance the Rapper-assisted ‘Holy’ – the lead single from Bieber’s yet-titled sixth studio album – was certified Platinum.
Together, the updates push his overall certification tally to 92.5 million singles sold in the U.S. – the highest in history of any male vocalist. Among all artists, Bieber ranks 7th behind Drake, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kanye West, Eminem, and Katy Perry.
Like ‘Yummy’ (which peaked at #2 at the height of its popularity), ‘Holy’ peaked in the Hot 100’s top five (#3) in 2020.
