Diana Ross has broken her silence on the death of Mary Wilson, a fellow founding member of The Supremes.
As reported, the 76-year-old singer died suddenly at her home on Monday (February 8).
Now, Ross – who performed with her for many years as part of the legendary Motown group, has paid emotional tribute to a woman whose story is forever interwoven with her own.
Her words below…
Via Twitter, Ross wrote:
“I just woke up to this news, my condolences to you Mary’s family, I am reminded that each day is a gift, I have so many wonderful memories of our time together “The Supremes ” will live on, in our hearts. “
The ladies layered narratives are well-documented and have inspired movies, plays, documentaries, and more.
But what has always and continues to be clear is that the love and respect between the stars has never wavered.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary’s family.
Diana is jumping for joy

Sooo glad we was not born back then anybody over 65 your gonna burn In. Hell

Naw, it ain’t about jealousy. It’s about having self respect and carrying yourself like a real man or woman.
How is she breaking silence when she literally responded on the same day that she died??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
?
Wow, just wow. I love The Supremes, the first and best of the female supergroups. I read Mary Wilson’s books and Diana Ross’ too, and I think I have a pretty well-rounded view of the dynamics of the group. I take Diana at her word — she probably does have fond memories of Mary, though not only fond memories, as they had a rocky relationship over the years. Ultimately, it took years for Mary to step out of the shadow of Diana Ross and the Supremes, and she toured for decades doing her own Supremes show.
RIP Queen Mary Wilson
No Miss Ross slander. She literally paved the way for all your favs. Back in the day it was uncharted territory to go solo…now you have Beyonce, Timberlake and countless others breaking away from groups to be solo stars. Mary and Florence were certainly legends too but neither could have transcended into superstardom nor broke the barriers Miss Ross broke.
Diana was meant to be the star…we already had an Aretha, Gladys, Patti, Tina and Dionne. Investing in another gospel infused vocalist was not necessary bc nobody would top Aretha, Gladys and Patti. Diana had the perfect voice for pop music..kind of like Janet, Madonna and Rihanna that followed her. They can sing but aren’t powerhouses but they convey emotion better than many technically superior vocalists.
We don’t know all the history btwn Mary and Diana. I’m sure a lot of it was jealousy and a product of a time when all women were pitted against each other to survive. Mary knew without Diana in the group her checks wouldn’t be the same.
@Rashad – This article is about MARY not Diana. You are such a d***.
Can you read? The heading is Diana Ross’s reaction. Diana is getting dragged for never doing enough fir Mary/Flo etc. I swear the comments on this blog are trash. I always keep it about the music and not diving into stupid personal attacks on people that many get pulled into and your comment is the reason I find myself coming on here less and less. This isn’t an ATL housewives reunion
