2020 may have been the year that built buzz for rising R&B singer Giveon, but 2021 is proving itself the year the 26-year-old is set for breakthrough.
First gaining international notoriety as a feature on Drake‘s hit ‘Chicago Freestyle’ (which peaked at #14 on the Hot 100 last year), the crooner (born Giveon Dezmann Evans) went on to release two EPs in the months that followed – the GRAMMY-nominated ‘Take Time’ (March 2020) and ‘When It’s All Said and Done’ (October 2020).
While those efforts managed to peak at the #70 and #93 rungs respectively on the Billboard 200, an appearance on the Hot 100 eluded Evans – until this week.

Just two months after learning his single ‘Like I Want You’ had crossed the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) threshold for GOLD status – meaning it’s sold the equivalent of 500,000 copies in the United States – the updated Hot 100 reveals it is one of two of his tunes to crack the tally, marking his first solo entries.
Alongside ‘Like’ at #95, Giveon’s ‘Heartbreak Anniversary’ appeared at #74 – coming as his highest charting effort to date. The former is also the singer-songwriter’s first top 10 hit on the R&B chart.
Both songs are found on his debut EP ‘Take Time.’
