Six months after learning her breakthrough single, ‘B*tch from da Souf,’ had the distinct honor of becoming the first Gold-certified hit of her career, Mulatto‘s followed the win with a similar plaque – this one assigned to ‘Souf’s follow-up, ‘MUWOP’ (featuring Gucci Mane).
More inside:
Released July 30, 2020, the J. White Did It-produced cut samples Mane’s 2007 hit, ‘Freaky Gurl.’ And while it only peaked at #4 on the Bubbling Under charts, it fared far better on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart where it cracked the top 40 at the height of its popularity.
In the months following its release, Mulatto’s rising star has also seen a rise in attention to her debut album, ‘Queen of Da Souf’ (where ‘MUWOP’ and ‘B*tch from Da Souf’ are both found).
The result of that growing public interest is the tune’s Gold certification as awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Monday (February 1), an honor that denotes sales equivalence of 500,000 in the United States alone.
