With the 2021 GRAMMY Awards less than a week away, excitement continues to build for the event.
Every field is jam-packed with the who’s who in the music industry. Take for example the Best New Artist category. Ingrid Andress, Phoebe Bridgers, Chika, Noah Cyrus, D Smoke, Doja Cat, Kaytranada, and Megan Thee Stallion are all nominated.
But who will win and who should win?
Join us below to find out…
Who will win: Megan Thee Stallion
Meg seems poised to pick up at least one of the trophies for the major categories, this being Best New Artist. Her rise to fame has been one many dream about. She dominated with ‘Hot Girl Summer’ in 2019 and then dominated summer once more with ‘WAP’ in 2020. Meg’s appearance in TIME Magazine‘s 100 most influential people doesn’t hurt her chances either.
Who should win: Megan Thee Stallion
Again, Meg has now dominated two summers in a row with smash-hits. Additionally, it’s not every day that Beyoncé herself wants to do a remix with you (see their ‘Savage Remix’). While the other nominees have had success in their own right, Meg has achieved the rare feat of both critical and commercial success securing her spot as this year’s winner.
Dark horse: Phoebe Bridgers
While Megan Thee Stallion seems poised to take the trophy in every regard, the only other candidate who could be in her way is indie darling Phoebe Bridgers. Her sophomore album ‘Punisher’ was met with large amounts of critical acclaim and landed on many year-end lists. Couple that with the fact that the academy has a soft spot for indie artists and you could see an upset at the ceremony. It is worth noting too that Bridgers is nominated in three other categories, which doesn’t hurt her odds.
