GRAMMYs 2021: That Grape Juice Predicts Record Of The Year Winner

Published: Friday 12th Mar 2021 by Ryan

With the 2021 GRAMMY Awards less than a week away, the excitement continues to build for the event.

Every field is jam-packed with the who’s who in the music industry. Take for example the Record Of The Year category. Beyoncé, Black Pumas, DaBaby and Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, and Megan Thee Stallion are all nominated.

But who will win and who should win?

Join us below to find out…

Who will win: Dua Lipa – ‘Don’t Start Now’

With six nominations this year, Lipa seems poised to pick up at least one in the major categories, this being Record Of The Year. After taking home two trophies in 2019, one has been in a major category, as she won Best New Artist, she returned to the studio to deliver one of 2020’s most praised albums with ‘Future Nostalgia.’ Leading the pack of songs was ‘Don’t Start Now.’ A blend of 70’s pop mixed with the stylings of today’s music, it became her highest-charting hit to date. Its overarching sound between decades is sure to win over GRAMMY voters old and new alike.

Who should win: Dua Lipa – ‘Don’t Start Now’

Again, Dua was able to create a sound that bridged generations together that will surely win over GRAMMY voters. However, it is rightfully so. In a time when we were all cooped-up inside, Lipa delivered the dance floor straight to our houses. While the other nominees had a successful year in their own right, Lipa achieved the rare feat of making something old brand new. Mix that with critical and commercial success, and you have the winner for Record Of The Year.

Dark Horse: Billie Eilish – ‘Everything I Wanted’

While Lipa and the other candidates have a strong shot at winning this year’s trophy, the one who could sneak up and take the honor is Eilish. After winning all Big Four categories last year, she is nominated again this year for her song ‘Everything I Wanted.’ Despite the song’s critical and commercial success – it became her second top 10 hit – it seems unlikely that the academy would choose the same artist two-years in a row. However, it has happened before. Both Roberta Flack and U2 won in two consecutive years. With Eilish already being a GRAMMY darling, she could join them in their prestigious company.
