Dua Lipa is just one week shy of levitating into Hot 100 history books thanks to her enduring ‘Future Nostalgia’ hit.
Details inside:
Lipa fans still crying foul after ‘Levitating’ was blocked from #1 after a shocking showdown with Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak‘s hit ‘Leave the Door Open’ last week were open to news the tune had crossed the Recording Industry Association of America’s threshold for double Platinum status – meaning it’s sold 2 million copies in the United States alone.
The upgrade makes Dua only the second female to see multiple multiPlatinum hits from a 2020-released album (Ariana Grande was the first).
This week – despite still being held at bay from the summit of the Hot 100 – Lipa landed her 20th week inside the top 10. A major feat given the tune’s slow start, the stronghold on the chart region comes with historic news. It’s now locked in a four-way tie for longest-running Hot 100 top 10 hit by a British female. Only Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” and Adele’s “Someone Like You” and “Rolling In The Deep” can boast as long a stay.
Given its strength at radio, it’s likely ‘Levitating’ will remain in the top 10 next week. If so, it’s 21st week will make it the longest-running top 10 hit by a British female ever. Among all females (in leading roles), Leann Rimes‘ classic Country hit – ‘How Do I Live’ – lives on in the top spot as it stayed put in the top 10 for a whopping 32 weeks at the height of its populariy.
Until we find out for sure if Lipa will break the tie, look below to see who joins her in the top 25 on this week’s ‘TGJ Chart Check.’
