As the age-old adage goes, anything can happen. A reality that is especially true when it comes to the Billboard Hot 100.
As reported, data tallies had Dua Lipa on course to score her first #1 with ‘Levivating.’
Now, after an unusual 48-hour delay, the latest incarnation of the chart has been unveiled and another act sits in pole position.

With fans waiting with bated breath for this week’s Hot 100, Billboard has finally obliged and made sure to note that the delay was due to “standard audits being conducted on reported data.” The note continued and cited expressed goal of working with “data partners to recognize and resolve anomalies.”
Now the curtain has been flung back and it reveals that Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak has returned to #1 with ‘Leave The Door Open.’
Lipa, meanwhile, leaps to a new peak of #2.
The duo, who go by Silk Sonic, pulled off the feat with the following numbers:
- Streaming: 17.8 million streams
- Digital Downloads: 14,200 downloads
- Radio Airplay: 87 million impressions
‘Levitating’ managed its rise with:
- Streaming: 21.9 million streams
- Digital Downloads: 19,900 downloads
- Radio Airplay: 59.7 million impressions
As the numbers show, radio play is what nabbed the win for Silk Sonic.
The #2 finish for Lipa will no doubt be bittersweet.
On the one hand, she manages to match her prior Hot 100 peak, following the #2 placement of ‘Future Nostalgia’s’ 2020 lead single ‘Don’t Start Now.’
Yet, she was on the cusp of making history had ‘Levitating’ – which first impacted the tally 32 weeks ago – hit #1.
And it’s clear all involved were aware, as all versions of the track (which boasts many remixes, including one with Madonna) were slashed to $0.69 to assist its chances.
Time will tell if the song can manage the feat in future weeks.
For now, though, it’s celebration time for Bruno and Anderson, who now reign for their second non-consecutive week.
