Jessie J has bravely opened up about her battle with Meniere’s disease and the additional health issues that have had a collective effect it’s had on her voice.

The singer, who returned to the music scene with her new single ‘I Want Love,’ shared an emotional video and set of messages detailing her experience with the ear condition and acid reflux which in turn caused her vocal chords to develop nodules.
She began by saying:
“The first song I sang was I want love. Just hearing myself sing it and feel so vulnerable whilst singing bought me to tears.
I have never ever to this day (since recording it) been able to to sing it because of the pain I am experiencing. Man it’s been hard not singing. It’s literally my life line and my happiness. Being quiet is not something I’m good at. Or makes me feel like myself. Lord knows I’m loud af.
It was in that moment I knew I needed to be honest with myself and honest with you all about where I am at and explain what is going on… To be totally real, to have your support and love would help me get through this faster I’m sure.”
With her Instagram Stories, the British belter went on to share that the steroids she was taking for Meniere’s disease likely led to the acid reflux that impacted her throat.
Delving into detail, she says her throat problems started in February – which led to her visiting six separate doctors in succession only to “still in the same pain every day.”
The nodules eventually disappeared when she adhered to advice to rest her voice by not singing or talking. However, she stressed that the nodules returned when she commenced singing again.
J went on to add that there were discussions about possibly delaying her incoming album as a result, but she and her team want to soldier on as she strives to get better.
