Rumors of the star’s passing spread last month, but were debunked as false.
However, sadly the MC succumbed to the severity of his condition.
Renowned for his 1989 smash ‘Just a Friend,’ the rapper – born Marcel Hall – had been struggling with a number of health failures including a stroke that he suffered in 2020 while hospitalized for complications with Type 2 diabetes. The latter incident reportedly left him with ‘significant brain damage.’
A statement from his reps read:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce, this evening, with his wife Tara by his side, Hip Hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully passed away.
We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time. Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years. We respectfully request privacy for his family as they mourn their loved one.”
Our thoughts are with his loved ones.
