Lil Nas X Slams ‘Bottom Shaming’ in Gay Culture: It’s ‘A Form of Misogyny Between Men’

Published: Thursday 12th Aug 2021 by Rashad

When not trolling fans and detractors on social media, Lil Nas X is making headlines for ruffling the feathers of less-than-liberal-leaning viewers who express outrage over the content of his risqué music videos and stage performances.

And though he takes the attention in stride (as recently revealed via his recent eye-popping feature in ‘Variety’), the openly gay music star also uses his platform for educational purposes – not only raising his voice to teach those outside the gay community but those within it as well.

See what we mean inside:

Among the many quotes from his ‘Variety’ interview sure to get tongues wagging, it’s arguable the two spiciest centered on the GRAMMY winner’s love and sex life.

Dishing on his relationship status, the 22-year-old stunned when he revealed he is currently off the market.

“Yeah. I think this is the one,” LNX said when quizzed on if he was in a relationship. “I can’t explain it. It’s a feeling.”

While the statement may put rumors of his romantic availability to rest, it did little to quell conversation around his sexual role – an ongoing discussion partly fueled by LNX’s own admission in his 2020 top 40 hit, ‘Holiday,’ when he said:

“Can I pop sh*t?/I might bottom on the low, but I top sh*t.”

When quizzed on if the lyric was his strategic way of ‘coming out as a bottom,’ LNX laughed off the question by addressing the stigma around sexual positions in male same sex relationships.

“I feel like even within the gay community, people see bottoming as a joke or something. And somebody who bottoms is beneath a top or something. The idea of that, I feel like, is a form of misogyny between men,” he said. “It doesn’t make any sense, and people attribute certain traits to whichever sexual position you decide to take. A lot of people say, ‘It’s just a joke.’ But all jokes have truths to them.”
