Whitney Houston fans were sent into an uproar last week when Warner Bros. took to press to announce they were moving forward with an official remake of the late diva’s breakout film, ‘The Bodyguard’ (1992).
One of the highest grossing films of all-time (with over $400 million collected at the box office), the movie’s popularity is only matched by that of its GRAMMY-winning companion album – which is listed as the best-selling soundtrack of all time.
Despite widespread disapproval of the reboot, including jeers from Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown (as we reported here), the search for its lead characters is on and a number of actresses are already vying for the lead role.
Surprisingly, among the interested is ‘American Idol’ alum Jordin Sparks.
As seen in the photo above, our friends at PopCrave recently took to Twitter to poll users about who they think could fill the shoes of Houston’s ‘Bodyguard’ character “Rachel Marron.”
Sparks – who starred opposite Whitney in the Pop icon’s last movie ‘Sparkle’ – entered the chat to indicate she’d like to be in the running for the role.
“I would like to put my name in the hat,” she said alongside a praying hands emoji.
At writing, the position is still up for grabs so we could very well see Jordin showing off her acting prowess in the film’s reboot.
Until we find out for sure, look below to hear the 31-year-old show off her vocal chops by performing the ‘Bodyguard’ soundtrack’s biggest hit – ‘I Will Always Love You.’
