At the top of 2001, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Mya, and Lil Kim rocked the music industry and history books alike with ‘Lady Marmalade’ – their unexpected, chart-topping remake of the 1974 Labelle classic of the same name.
As the song celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year, some fans of the four divas have been calling for a reunion to pay tribute to their soaring rendition while other music lovers – as evidenced Wednesday (September 22) – think it’s time the sexy tune be given an update.
See what we mean inside:
Ariana Grande fans (affectionately called #Arianators) may be reveling in seeing their fave weekly on television via her stint on this season of NBC reality singing competition ‘The Voice,’ but that doesn’t mean they’re not still hungry for new music.
Taking to Twitter Wednesday, one fan shared a fantasy roster of today’s top hitmakers who should revamp ‘Lady Marmalade.’ To the surprise of the poster, one of the artists mentioned – Normani – gave an exclamatory response to the suggestion.
The ‘Wild Side’ singer’s fans – affectionately called #NormaniNation – went wild at the retweet, a measure that certainly got fingers typing and lips moving.
Honestly, the notion isn’t too far-fetched given Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa‘s rumored forthcoming collaboration as well as the previous one-off collaborations of the mentioned across the board (see: Stallion and Normani’s ‘Diamonds,’ Grande & Stallion’s ’34+35′ remix, Normani & Grande’s ‘Bad To You,’ Lipa & Normani’s shelved single, and more).
As of time reported, however, there are no official plans for any major artists to remake the ‘Moulin Rouge’ hit.
