Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have dominated the airwaves this year with butter-smooth bops from their debut collaborative album, ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic.’
Indeed, from chart-topper ‘Leave The Door Open’ to the funkified ‘Skate’ to the duo’s latest hit ‘Smokin Out The Window,’ the performers have established a welcome presence in the Pop cultural landscape.
With the final numbers tallied, the new issue of the Billboard 200 reveals that Mars and Paak have opened strong on the coveted count.

‘An Evening with Silk Sonic’ premieres at #2 on the chart, with combined first-week sales of 104,000 (SPS).
The stars were bested by Taylor Swift‘s mega-selling ‘Red (Taylor’s Version),’ which launched with sales north of 600k.
Of Silk Sonic’s total sum, the streaming and traditional figures were almost evenly split. For, streaming accounted for 60,000 units thanks to 82.6 million on-demand plays of the project’s 9-tracks. The remaining 44,000 was largely accrued via pure sales.
The #2 placement means ‘Evening’ becomes Paak’s highest-charting album to date, powering past the #4 peak of ‘Ventura’ in 2019.
Ironically for Mars, his last two solo albums also premiered at #2; with 2012’s ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ also being pipped to the top spot by Swift’s original version of ‘Red.’
It’s worth noting, though, that the stage blazer has a proven track record of selling consistently over the course of a campaign. Time will tell if that proves the case for ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic.’
