Jesy Nelson is pressing forward with her solo career and said path led her to the main stage at night one of Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at London’s O2 Arena.
Looking to leave behind various dramas (including a widely publicized blackfishing scandal and fallout with her former Little Mix bandmates), the 30-year-old rallied up her dancers in an attempt to put on a dazzling showcase.
Watch her performance of debut single ‘Boyz (ft. Nicki Minaj)’ below…
Hmm.
The “drama” aside, there’s no doubting Jesy’s ability. In many ways, the “elements” are there and, as a performer, she’s significantly more seasoned than some of the stars at the top of the charts. But it’s impossible to get around the fact that what she’s serving needs a lot of refining.
It’s like there’s so much going on, but not much going on…all at the same time.
She and her dancers bring an undeniable ball of energy, yet they’re collectively bouncing around on stage with no real direction or purpose. Everything was so all-out from the get-go that there was nothing to build towards.
Future performances would benefit in earnest from Ms. Nelson falling into the choreo and perhaps working towards a show-stopping dance break. Just a thought.
Oh, and it’s time to move on from this song. Pronto.
