Some of music’s biggest acts have taken to the Swizz Beatz and Timbaland-curated platform #VERZUZ to show off their career’s worth of hits.
As more and more acts add their names to the virtual arena’s list of combatants, music lovers regularly take to social media to roll out their “fantasy wishlists” – a ticket that frequently sees ‘Fantasy’ singer Mariah Carey listed at the center.
Now, legendary singer, songwriter, and record executive LA Reid has added to the calls for the GRAMMY-winning diva to bring her 19 #1 hits to a showdown.
Taking to ‘The Real’ last week, Reid – whose penmanship is attached to memorable hits from the likes of Whitney Houston, P!nk, Toni Braxton, Usher, and more – was hot on the promo trail in support of his new artist, Aiyana-Lee.
While there, the daytime divas quizzed the 65-year-old on a number of music industry-related hot topics including independent labels, Britney Spears’ conservatorship drama, and more.
However, it wasn’t until he addressed the wildly popular #VERZUZ phenomenon that he got tongues wagging.
“Mariah Carey versus Beyonce…bring that on,” he said when asked about his ‘ideal’ battle. “…the hits they have, the legacy they both have, and [more].”
Later, he elaborated on why the two powerhouse divas are his top picks.
“Bey is the Queen, but sometimes Mariah might be slightly underrated for how long her career has lasted, how many hits she has, and she practically owns Christmas.”
