If turning the sour to sweet was a superpower, it’s one Saweetie would flex in earnest.
The GRAMMY nominee is tap, tap, tapping into her marketing bag by launching a social media challenge in an attempt to redirect recent negative press.
See the what and how below…
As has been making news all week, the rapper (born Diamonte Harper) has been on the receiving end of an unceremonious dragging as critics continue to weigh in on her recent performance at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball.
Filling in for her ‘Best Friend’ co-star Doja Cat (who – in contrast – has been getting rave reviews for her stellar stage showings), Harper showed off a medley of her hits ‘Tap In,’ ‘My Type,’ and new song, ‘Icy Chain’ (as seen in the video above). Throughout the performance, the hitmaker was visibly winded – losing her breath and the lyrics to her own songs at multiple junctures in her short set. Criticism was heightened once the rapper showed off new choreography to ‘Chain’ – particularly a move that required she click her heels while twerking.
Igniting a firestorm of ridicule, Saweetie – instead of responding to the chatter head-on – took to Twitter to capitalize, launching the #IcyChainChallenge in the middle of the hoopla.
Calling on acceptors to replicate the choreography, Saweetie broke it all the way down in the challenge’s kickoff video:
