Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama, Anitta, Tove Lo, and Royal & The Serpent.
Join us inside…
Charli XCX & Rina Sawayama – Beg For You
Pop titans Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama are back with a collaboration for the ages. Entitled ‘Beg For You,’ the tune is a dance-pop gem straight out of the 2000’s with its sample of September’s ‘Cry For You.’ Equal parts fun and heartbreaking, ‘Beg For You’ promised big things upon its announcement, but delivered even bigger results upon its release.

Anitta – Boys Don’t Cry
Anitta is back and better than ever on her latest song, ‘Boys Don’t Cry.’ The tune is an electropop tour de force with its heavy synth usage and retro flare. Reminiscent of one of pop music’s golden ages, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ could very well be the crown on a new golden era.

Tove Lo – How Long
Serving as a single from the ‘Euphoria’ soundtrack, Tove Lo returns with ‘How Long.’ A dark, synth-pop banger, it is complete with 80’s keyboards and a pounding beat. All about betrayal, denial, and love, ‘How Long’ is Tove Lo and her synth-pop peak.

Royal & The Serpent – I Don’t Even Like U
Fresh off the release of her ‘If I Died Would Anyone Care’ EP, Royal & Serpent is riding high with the lead single ‘Better.’ However, it is the track ‘I Don’t Even Like You’ that stands as the project’s shining gem. A propulsive pop-punk banger, ‘I Don’t Even Like U’ has all the attitude and swagger of the genre’s golden years. Marking one of the year’s strongest releases, ‘I Don’t Even Like You’ is pop-punk at its peak.
