“I Try” singer Macy Gray tried and succeeded at putting a unique spin on the U.S. national anthem when she took to Cleveland to help kick off the NBA All-Star Game Sunday (February 20).

The GRAMMY-winning songstress, long lauded for her smoky vocals, got quite the polarizing response from anxious game goers and viewers as she tackled the historic tune like only she can.
