As if being the first male vocalist to sell over 100 million digital records in the United States isn’t enough to brag about, Justin Bieber sits in the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) history books as the most-decorated male singer ever.
Now, thanks to the ongoing success of his third Hot 100 #1 single ‘Love Yourself’ (from the 2015 album ‘Purpose’), the Canadian heartthrob has extended the already gargantuan record.
More inside:
Last month, the RIAA took to press to announce three Bieber singles had their respective certification statuses upgraded: ‘Love Yourself’ (9x Platinum), ‘Ghost’ (1x Platinum), and the Kid LAROI duet ‘Stay’ (4x Platinum). The term “Platinum” signifies sales of 1 million units in the U.S.
Of particular note, ‘Love’ is 1 million sales shy of joining the Diamond club (meaning it’s sold 10 million in the same geographic territory). While only 72 songs in the history of recorded music can boast such an honor, Bieber is no stranger to that success as his name is already attached to three others: ‘Baby,’ ‘Sorry,’ and the Luis Fonsi hit, ‘Despacito.’
With the updates, Bieber’s cumulative digital single sales now sit at 107 million. The accomplishments push him further in first place among fellow male singers, a feat all the more impressive as he is only 27-years-old.
With streamings counting as sales Diamond singles became irrelevant..
Just check the discrepancy before 09 and after 09..
10 until 2009
36 from 2009 til today
And we all know artists and labels are earning way less in sales and are only earning pennies from streaming.. this is so embarrassing to RIAA god 😫😂
They really made music certifications useless
