Lil Nas X is making room on his wall for even more certification plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) thanks to the ongoing success of his debut bodies of work – the ‘7’ EP and ‘Montero’ album respectively.
More inside:
The RIAA took to press Friday (February 18) to announce X’s ‘7’ EP had crossed its threshold for 2x Platinum, a measure that signifies sales of 2 million in the United States alone.
His first body of work to know multiPlatinum status, ‘7’ – which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 in 2019 – is best known for housing the rapper-singer’s debut single, ‘Old Town Road.’ Now at 16x Platinum, ‘Road’ sits as the highest-certified song in the history of recorded music.
The celebration doesn’t stop there, however.
On the same day, ‘Montero’ – the GRAMMY winner’s 2021 eponymous debut album – was certified Platinum for sales of 1 million in the United States.
Best known for housing the controversial hits ‘That’s What I Want,’ ‘Industry Baby,’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ ‘Montero’ – like ‘7’ before it – also peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200.
