Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Machine Gun Kelly, Joel Corry, Mitski, and Caitlyn Smith.
Join us inside…
Machine Gun Kelly – Emo Girl
Serving as the lead single from his second pop-punk album (‘Mainstream Sellout’), Machine Gun Kelly has teamed with Willow for ‘Emo Girl.’ Produced by Blink-182’s Travis Barker, the song is complete with pounding drums, angsty guitars, and a throbbing bass line. Pop-punk to the core, Willow and MGK have created an anthem that will be screamed out for ages to come.

Joel Corry – Liquor Store
It’s hard to think of an artist that has had as much success over the past few years than Joel Corry. After delivering multiple hits in the UK, the producer is back with his latest jam, ‘Liquor Store.’ A pulsating bass line, warbling synths, and an anthemic vocal sample help to create a jam that is perfect for the club or any house party. In short, Joel Corry has once more proved that he is the master of his craft.

Mistski – Stay Soft
It’s finally here! Mitski has unleashed her long-awaited album ‘Laurel Hell’ and found on the project is the sleek, synth-pop song ‘Stay Soft.’ Recalling sounds from the 80’s the tune retains a timeless quality all the while bringing a fresh sound to the table. When paired with the previously released ‘The Only Heartbreaker,’ ‘Working For The Knife,’ ‘Heat Lightning,’ and ‘Love Me More,’ Mitski has delivered one of the year’s best albums so far.

Caitlyn Smith – High
Having written for Miley Cyrus, James Bay, Garth Brooks, Meghan Trainor, and more, Caitlyn Smith has built up a reputation as being one of the most versatile and sought after writers in the game. While her own body of work stands among some of the best country-pop albums of the best decade, she is now sharing her rendition of the song she wrote for Cyrus on her ‘Plastic Hearts’ album. Transforming the song from an 80’s pop-rock ballad, she pivots genres to include various country instrumentals while her voice burns across them with such intensity nothing can stop it. Already a highlight from ‘Plastic Hearts,’ Smith’s rendition now proves why it is one of the defining songs of the decade.
