Dedicated Kanye West fans may be getting their money’s worth after shelling out $200 to purchase the STEM Player that exclusively houses his latest album, ‘Donda 2,’ but the ongoing commercial activity suggests many are still enjoying its less expensive predecessor.
Details inside:
On March 9, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) took to press to announce West’s August 2021-released ‘Donda’ LP had been certified Platinum – a measure that denotes Stateside sales of 1 million units.
On the same day, the RIAA also upgraded the certifications of two of West’s singles – ‘We Don’t Care’ (Gold) and the Pusha T-assisted ‘Runaway’ (3x Platinum).
Affectionately named after his late mother, ‘Donda’ is Yeezy’s ninth solo studio effort (11th overall) to be certified Platinum or higher.
A 27-track project, the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 last year with some of the year’s highest first-week sales. It was his ninth consecutive opus to open atop the hit list (as we reported here).
This album sold off of hype nothing else..
Oh he used his mother name, oh he staying in stadiums, oh he doing listening parties, that’s not marketing, that’s hype. He shouldn’t need to do that, seeing that he is a ” genius ” and he’s been in the game for so long. But 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
He can’t afford to hurt you shut up..haha haha
But it sold about 50,000 actual copies and about 20,000 fully paid digital downloads. (Truthfully, not sure if those numbers have been updated.)
Flip through someone’s record/CD collection and you ain’t gonna see it. Streams are like the wind…they vanish after a listen.
