Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charli XCX, Haim, Asa, and Arden Jones.
Join us inside…
Charli XCX – Baby
With only two weeks to go until she unleashes her ‘Crash’ album, Charli XCX is back with her latest song, ‘Baby.’ The sleek disco-pop song is complete with tight bass lines, twinkling synths, and 80’s-inspired keyboards. Unabashedly horny, Charli makes no apologies as she celebrates her freedom. An early highlight from ‘Crash,’ ‘Baby’ continues to prove that the album may be her best yet.

Haim – Lost Track
Serving as Haim’s first official single since their Taylor Swift collaboration ‘Gasoline’ last year, the sisters have now come back with their latest tune, ‘Lost Track.’ A shimmering indie-pop tune complete with handclaps, sparkling synths, and a bouncing bass line, ‘Lost Track’ sees Haim lamenting over what they cannot get back. Easily one the group’s most accessible songs, ‘Lost Track’ is the girls at the top of their game.

Asa – Love Me Or Give Me Red Wine
Afropop star Asa is back with her most recent album, ‘V,’ an equate blend of Afro beats and punching lyricism that awakens even the most hardened soul. At the center of the project is the heartbreaking ‘Love Me Or Give Me Red Wine,’ a turbulent tune about the flow of love that is backed by strong procession and rhythmic grooves. A tune not to miss, ‘Love Me Or Give Me Red Wine’ is a bold statement from an even more brilliant act.

Arden Jones – The Other Side
Rising indie-pop star Arden Jones is back with his latest EP, ‘Age Tape 2’ and at the center of the collection of songs is the track ‘The Other Side.’ Fuzzy synths, a pounding beat, and haunting background vocals guide the way as Jones seeks new horizons on the proverbial “other side.” With Jones releasing a new project every first Thursday every month this ear, ‘The Other Side’ is a strong showing as for what is to come.
