Lizzo fans, affectionately called #Lizzbians, apparently had time for the diva’s new single ‘About Damn Time’ as the Ricky Reed-produced cut soared on digital platforms to become this week’s top-selling new song by a female.
Look inside to see how its commercial performance helped nab Liz’s latest placement on the Hot 100.
Ahead of the July 15 release of her sophomore major label album ‘Special,’ Lizzo introduced music lovers to her new single ‘About Damn Time.’
Accompanied by a Christian Breslauer–directed music video (seen above), the uplifting tune – released April 13 – got the live treatment just days later when the diva rendered a sizzling performance live on ‘SNL’ (as we reported here).
That exposure and excitement surrounding the song’s arrival powered the tune to a #50 premiere on this week’s Hot 100. Here are the numbers that helped hoist it to its debut perch.
- Streaming ≈ 6.5 million U.S.-based streams
- Sales ≈ 7,000 digital downloads
- Radio Airplay ≈ 10.1 million audience impressions
With its first-week appearance at #50, the song not only entered the chart as the week’s best-performing new release by a female artist but it also ties Lizzo’s megahit, 2017’s ‘Truth Hurts,’ as her highest solo debut on the Hot 100.
