Janelle Monae is opening up about gender identity.
Specifically how she identifies now.

Speaking on the premiere episode of Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith, the 36-year-old said:
“I’m nonbinary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman, solely. I feel all of my energy. I feel like God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or the ‘she.’ And if I am from God, I am everything. I am everything. But I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am. Beyond the binary.”
In 2018, Monae came out as pansexual, stressing that she’s attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender identity. Two years later, In 2020, the stage blazer intimated an alignment with nonbinary when she retweeted a meme with the hashtag #IAmNonbinary.
Now, she has confirmed.
Notably, the ‘Primetime’ performer has not declared pronouns.
Rather, her identification as non-binary is freeing her to approach relationships in a much more liberated way. She said:
“I feel like that opens you up to fall in love with any beautiful spirit.”
