Jazmine Sullivan may have spent the first 14 years of her career garnering praise from critics, peers, and fans alike for her unmistakable vocal stylings, but it’s not gone unnoticed that fanfare hasn’t been reflected by way of industry recognition.
Since the release of her chart-dominating 2021 EP, ‘Heaux Tales,’ it seems a new narrative is being penciled.
Over the course of the last year, Sullivan’s not only racked up awards at the BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, GRAMMYs, Soul Train Awards, and more, she’s also crossed career milestones at Billboard and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The latter took to press Monday (April 25) to announce the bestowment of a slew of new Gold and Platinum plaques including one for her prized debut album, ‘Fearless.’
Details inside:
Nearly 14 years after her debut album, ‘Fearless,’ roared onto record shelves on the strength of singles ‘Lions, Tigers, & Bears,’ ‘Need U Bad,’ and the unforgettable ‘Bust Your Windows,’ the set’s been certified Platinum at the RIAA. The measure signifies sales of 1 million in the United States.
‘Fearless’ was just one of multiple titles to see its certification status upgraded this week. Look below for the full list.
1x Platinum
- ‘Need U Bad’ (Single)
- ‘Bust Your Windows’ (Single)
- ‘Insecure’ (Single)
Gold (for sales of 500,000)
- ‘Lions, Tigers, & Bears’ (Single)
- ‘In Love With Another Man’ (Single)
- ‘Let It Burn’ (Single)
It’s worth nothing that at the end of 2021, Jazmine had no RIAA-certified singles to her credit. As of time reported, not even five months into the year, she boasts 9.
It never made sense that ‘pick u your feelings’ was her first certification when she had bigger hits before. It means those songs were eligible to be certified just the label didnt apply for that. Happy the Label is doing right by her. A deserved congragulations.
Yup, a failure on her labels part.
Flop
Every body is a star with streaming
bust your windows and need you bad were huge hits during the 106 and park era
I’d be willing to bet “in love with another man” even was at least gold as much as that song gets covered
She threatened to quit music bc her label was f****** her around streaming has nothing to do with it
Huge hits is a stretch. I would say moderate hits at best. Jazmine let her insecurities get in the way. She even said this year at the Soul Train Awards that she’s no longer going into hiding and she loves herself now. Her material is better than it’s ever been. Congrats to her.
What a glow up! I’m so happy for Jazmine. It only gets better and bigger from here! Scram haters
WELL deserved. None of these girls are fxxking with Jazmines vocals on period.
