By many-a-critic’s standard, ‘Industry Baby’ performer Lil Nas X and Justin Bieber were considered frontrunners for GRAMMY wins at the 2022 ceremony based on the commercial and critical reception of their respective 2021 albums – ‘Montero’ and ‘Justice.’
Yet, despite delivering two of the night’s most talked about performances (as we reported here), the showings would later prove to be the only time they graced the stage as both left the event empty-handed.
Justin entered the 64th annual GRAMMY Awards Sunday (April 3) with a whopping eight nominations, including mention in Record, Song, and Album of the Year categories.
Leaving the event with zero wins, he now ties Rihanna and Kanye West for the all-time, one-night GRAMMY shut-out record. In 2017, both Rih and Ye left the award show without a trophy despite having 8 nods respectively.
For Lil Nas X – who joked about losing just hours before the show – the loss was almost just as notable as he too was listed in the Album, Song, and Record of the Year categories. Like Bieber, he left empty-handed.
Needless to say, both chart-toppers’ fan groups didn’t take the news lightly. See standout responses below.
