Mary J. Blige‘s historic career is continuing to get more legendary.
Case in point, she is set to receive a major accolade at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

Today exclusively revealed the news that the ‘Be Without You’ singer is set to receive the Icon Award. The award “recognizes outstanding artists who have achieved excellence on the Billboard Charts and have made an indelible mark on music itself,” according to the show.
Blige shared that she was touched to be honored with the award, saying in a statement:
“My career has been such an incredible and unexpected journey that has included many turns into avenues I never could have imagined like acting, producing, launching businesses and now even my own music festival.”
“Through it all, I always one way or another gravitated back to my first love, music. To be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that I am truly humbled by.”
Since being introduced in 2011, the Icon Award has been given to the likes of Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Garth Brooks.
The Billboard Music Awards mark Blige’s second major show this year. She previously performed at the Super Bowl alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar.
