Powered by hits such as ‘Wild Side’ and ‘Motivation,’ singer Normani is blazing a trail.
And while she has a laser focus on her forthcoming solo album debut, the Fifth Harmony graduate has taken a moment to salute the forces whose journeys have facilitated hers.
Currently on the promotional trail for her newest song ‘Fair,’ the 25-year-old opened up about the seismic impact of Pop queens Beyonce and Janet Jackson. Especially as Black women.

Speaking with Yahoo, the performer said:
“It was so important for me to have a Janet [Jackson] and have a [Beyonce] with curves to find my place and to also know that, ‘Okay, she looks like me. And she’s successful. She’s beautiful and I can do the same thing.’ Little Black me needed to see that.”
The singer continued:
“Being a Black woman, just to be seen or noticed, we have to do a lot more and work 10 times as hard.”
With that, what are…
She says the same stuff over and over again. Soooo boring. Where’s the album????
21 hundred days and counting, I know
You’re a FLOP still 💅🏾
Can you plz die of c***** already
Hunnie, Diva is immortal💅🏾 Stay hating on my glorious vibe.
Stfu Black woman💅🏾 Black this, Black that? Stop self – victimizing. Aren’t y’all tired of that? Look at Megan, SZA, summer, latto… aren’t they all black womenswear? all their careers had been taken off but your boring ass flop mani
Ok now name 10 more who are currently doing it big like them I’ll wait…….point is these artists don’t make money as is and must tour their asses off to make a profit. Knowing that, these record labels put their time and resources only behind a select few black (r&b/pop) artists. It’s been that way for decades! Though I will agree with those who feel Normani needs to step it up bc yes an album should have been out by now and she will see low numbers like her former band mate if she doesn’t step it up. However her former band mate has established herself.
Whether big or not they damn sure put their music out without further delaying in years as her – is the main point and have established themselves (10) more- Tinashe, Muni Long, HER, Kehlani, Ari Lennox, Doja Cat, Joyice Wright, Tems, Alex Isley, and Victoria Monet and most honorable is Chloe now – who stated she’s finished recording her debut before Normani smh.
With all this delay since Motivation first dropped (2018) she has placed upon herself high expectations. People are now going to be looking to listen to an actual BODY OF WORK that was worth the wait. Sells may be a factor to most stans or haters alike, but the damn music better be good is the main ingredient overall. If not, what was the purpose if everything is mediocre?
She doesn’t nor will ever be like her influences, however I hope she’s truly creatively involved as she implies with this album lyrically, thematically, and sonically. All which Janet, Aaliyah, and Beyonce are best known to do album wise.
aLL THIS CELEBRETIES ARE SOOO BORING BEYONCE IS NOT EVERTHING IN THIS WORLD MY GOSCH CALM DOWN. BEYONCE HERE BEYONCE THERE CAN NOT HEAR THAT NAME ANYMORE
Jealousy is UGLY! Beyoncé is here. She IS the standard and she isn’t going anywhere..continue to cry tho Lmfao.
Name dropping Beyonce. Check. Name dropping Janet. Check. Bringing up about her skin tone. Check. Can she not find out anything else to talk about?
Well she doesn’t have any music to talk about, so.
After flopping with all her releases; Normani needs to stop lying to herself. Time to get a day job Lady! No album coming, so stop embarrassing yourself and use your connections to get a real job.
Normani keeps telling y’all “she’ll play the tape when she’s ready to play the tape”…LOL. Perhaps she needs someone to snatch it out of her hands…
For real though, perhaps (as Chloe mentioned) she has NO REAL CONTROL over the release date. If that’s true, she can only sit, wait, and keep herself out there until it’s time.
I am still rooting for her to win.
They are gifted, you are not one of them Normani, the only thing you share is your color skin.
Normani must have a small “D” as I couldn’t even notice that she tucks, she must teach it to me.
