Saweetie may have only been 8-years-old when Aaliyah passed away, but she counts herself among the many the late R&B songstress left an indelible mark on in her short life.
Taking to MTV News segment ‘The Method’ recently, the rapstress (born Diamonte Harper) dished earnestly about her upbringing in the Bay area, upcoming debut album ‘Pretty B*tch Music,’ and so much more.
When dishing on her childhood idol Aaliyah, however, Harper lit up and shared some of her fondest memories with the show’s resident correspondent Dometi Pongo.

SAWEETIE ON HER AALIYAH’S INFLUENCE;
“When I think of my childhood, the only celebrity I would’ve been a stan for or even created a fandom for was Aaliyah. My love for celebrity and my love for my idol died when she died,” she started before later saying, “I used to beg my mom and dad to get the CDs. I had all her posters, DVDs, and I would sit in front of the TV all day and wait for her music videos to come on.”
SAWEETIE ON WHY SHE IDOLIZED AALIYAH:
“She was more than a woman like she said,” Saweetie began. “She was so beautiful, so classy, and her music is so different. It puts me in a good mood.”
