JAY-Z Addresses Retirement Rumors: “I Am Not Actively Making Music”

Published: Friday 15th Jul 2022 by Sam

JAY-Z wears many hats – with the most notable being Hip-Hop legend and mega mogul.

Boss moves have defined much of the superstar’s present-day narrative, which has led many to question whether or not he’s retired from Rap. Especially as his last release, the critically acclaimed ‘444,’ arrived in 2018 and seemed to many to present as a conclusive effort.

Appearing on Kevin Hart’s new Peacock series ‘Hart to Heart,’ the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer addressed the murmurs.

Speaking to Hart, Jay said:

“I don’t know what happens next. I am not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album. But I never want to say that I’m retired. It’s a gift, so who am I to shut it off? And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album. Maybe it is. I have no idea, but I am just going to leave it open.”

Explaining his previous attempt at retiring in the early 00s, HOV said:

“I just needed a break. But I really thought that I was really burnt out at that time. I was releasing an album every year. ’96, ’97, ’98. And, in between that, soundtracks, other people’s albums, Roc-A-Fella, touring, back-to-back. I just looked up one day and I was like ‘I’m tired.’ I had never been on vacation until like 2000. I was just really burnt out at that moment.”
