Check out Chloe x Halle, who cover the latest issue of Essence.
The GRAMMY-nominated sister duo has proven a force when together and equally potent as they strut forward on their solo journeys.
Over the last year, Chloe Bailey has blazed a trail with bops such as ‘Have Mercy,’ ‘Treat Me,’ and ‘Surprise’ – all of which are set to feature on her eagerly anticipated debut solo album.
Meanwhile, Halle has been heating up on the acting front with a high-profile spot in ‘The Color Purple’ and the lead role of Ariel in the upcoming ‘Little Mermaid’ live-action remake.
Heading below for pics and quotes about the future from the rising stars…
Chloe on Setting Sail on her Solo journey:
“When sis got the role of Ariel [in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid] it was so exciting, but it forced us to be in two different places, which was very, very scary.”
Chloe on Finding Balance Between Her Stage and Backstage Personas:
“As much as people think I’m so confident, 80 percent of the time I feel the complete opposite of that. That’s why I put so much of myself into my music. That’s where I feel like myself and where I belong in this life—whenever I’m onstage. The girl I see and I watch sing back, she intimidates me. I’m like, Who the hell is that?”
Chloe on Her Upcoming Album:
“It’s everything that I’ve been going through, all the tearing down, people underestimating, telling me I can’t do it—all of those things have gone into the music. The album is me picking myself up and talking myself out of any little place or space that the world has tried to put me in, that people and personal relationships have tried to put me in, and even [doing that to] myself. It’s me breaking free.”
Halle on Stepping Out on Her Own with The Little Mermaid:
“I was so nervous to do something on my own. I was like, I don’t know if I can do it without her. I’m so used to her being there and giving me that final push. Seeing how Chlöe’s navigated stepping out on her own is so inspiring to me,” she says. “I’m so grateful for that example.”
Halle on Playing Nettie in The Color Purple:
“She’s so much like me, because she has that fire inside of her. When it comes to defending her sister—as the little sister, I kind of connected my own experiences for the role.”
Halle on Boyfriend DDG:
” For sure I am [in love].
People have seen me grow up, so of course, they might have something to say about how I feel or what I do with my life. I just choose not to read it. I ignore the naysayers and follow my own heart and intuition.”
Halle on Settling Into Her “Woman Body”:
“Finally, I’m 22 years old, and some of the weight is sticking, and I’m happy about it. Chlöe has the booty, and I’m getting some cleavage.”
