Beyonce, already one of the most-awarded performers in American Music Awards history, garnered an additional six nominations at the 2022 ceremony for work found aboard her July-released seventh solo studio album, ‘Renaissance.’
And while she lost out early in Favorite Pop Album and Favorite Female Pop Artist categories to Taylor Swift, she managed wins in the Favorite R&B Album and Favorite Female R&B artist categories to historic measure.
Details inside.
Defeating Doja Cat, Summer Walker, SZA, and Muni Long for the Female R&B accolade, the 2022 win comes as the seventh time Bey’s collected the trophy over her solo career.
The only other artist to boast as many wins in the category is Rihanna, who captured her seventh Favorite Female R&B victory in 2016 in honor of her last studio album, ‘Anti.’ Up until Sunday night’s ceremony (November 20), Rih held the record for most wins in the category.
In the Favorite R&B Album category, Rih (3) and Bey (2) are the most-decorated female winners of all time.
Overall, the diva duo are the second and third most-decorated Black women in AMAs history.
Behind Whitney Houston‘s record-setting 22 wins, Rihanna has 13 prism trophies and Beyonce has 11 as a solo act (5 with Destiny’s Child).
