Peter Rosenberg Apologizes To Kelly Rowland for “Playing Second to Beyonce” Comment After Backlash [Video]

Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg found himself in hot water recently for asking singer-actress Kelly Rowland about how it feels to “play second” to her Destiny’s Child bandmate Beyonce.

After being checked in real-time by Rowland, many of the ‘Motivation‘ singer’s fans and supporters were motivated to do the same (albeit less tactfully in some instances).

The uproar on social media in defense of Kelly led Rosenberg to issue an apology and also take to the platform to explain his side of the story.  Details inside.

As reported here, Rosenberg got on Rowland’s bad side when he quizzed the diva – who was on hand to promote her new movie ‘Fantasy Football’ – about her “ability to play second” to Beyonce.

“Angie [Martinez] gave you flowers for your ability to play second to Beyonce,” he started before later continuing, “…you happen to be standing next to the brightest light on planet Earth. You think Big Boi from Outkast has it tough being next to Andre [3000], and you’re with Beyoncé. Not only did you not fight it, but it also seems you like you really love the position you were in.”

Kelly wasted no time hitting back to shut down the comparison.

“I don’t think anybody’s light dims anyone else’s,” she said. ”I think that when other people start to compare you, I think that shows how dim they are of themselves.”

Her response earned major praise on Twitter from commenters who also set their sights on checking Peter.  Seeing his name sent to trending status on the platform Thursday (November 17) prompted a response from the DJ.

His discussion on the matter wasn’t limited to Twitter, however.  Taking to Hot 97, Peter reflected on the hoopla from Rowland’s fans with co-hosts Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez.

There, he attempted to make clear that he respects Kelly and didn’t mean to be offensive.

“Kelly Rowland to me, it’s so obvious that she is such an iconic star that I didn’t think twice about bringing it up as a conversation. But, in retrospect, I brought it up in a way that was clumsy and I understand why people were annoyed by it,” he shared as he revisited the awkward incident.
