The Pop Stop: Lewis Capaldi, RM, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 2nd Dec 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Lewis Capaldi, RM, Alec Benjamin, and Powfu.

Join us inside…

Lewis Capaldi – Pointless

After delving into more upbeat production on his previous single ‘Forget Me,’ Lewis Capaldi is making his return to piano ballads in grand fashion with his latest single, ‘Pointless.’ A song about a partner giving meaning to everyday life, Capaldi is as romantic as ever across the delicate tune, making for a truly moving experience.

RN – Yun

BTS leader RN is back with his newest album, ‘Indigo.’ On the project, he teams up with soul icon Erykah Badu for the song ‘Yun.’ Built around Neo-soul sounds, the track is a fresh take on the genre with RN’s hypnotic bars and Badu’s spellbinding vocals. One of many highlights across ‘Indigo,’ ‘Yun’ proves that whether they are together or apart, the members of BTS are a force to be reckoned with.

Alec Benjamin – Paper Crown

Singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin is back with a revamped version of his fan favorite song, ‘Paper Crown.’ Touching on such themes as insecurity and feeling trapped, the song is complete with a soft backbeat, flourishes of piano, and powerful guitar chords. Hauntingly beautiful, ‘Paper Crown’ continues to prove why Alec Benjamin may be the king of the next generation of songwriters.

Powfu – Shade of Blue

Powfu is back with his latest effort, a 9-song album called ‘Surrounded By Hounds and Serpents.’ On the project is the standout track, ‘Shade of Blue.’ Featuring Rxseboy, Tia Tia, and Shalfi, the song is an intoxicating low-fi tune about a failed relationship. Heartbreaking and poignant, Powfu further demonstrates that he is one of music’s most enthralling rising stars.
