Timbaland is getting candid on the making of Aaliyah’s ‘Are You That Somebody’ and sharing new insight as to what inspired the song.
Full story below…
“I actually was trying to make the ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ beat from the ‘Oompa Loompa’ song,” he said via Pitchfork.
“I took that rhythm and I listened back to it and I was like, ‘Man. that’s a dope addition.’ That’s what I was trying to attempt but in a hip-hop way. … I gotta thank Willy Wonka for that,” he continued.
Elsewhere the conversation, he shared that the baby sound in ‘Are You That Somebody’ was actually from a 60s compilation of sound effects.
However, Timbaland is not the only producer to take inspiration from a movie. Take A Daytrip shared how a scene from ‘Shrek 2’ inspired ‘Industry Baby.’
Everybody loves timberland but when is the new missy Elliott bio pic coming out…idk who should play timbo or Aaliyah but The soundtrack would be off the hook
Well I hope you cleared any alleged sample OR reworked the music enough because the Wonka writers may be calling now and asking for a check, lol
Riiight..he should have kept that to himself
It’s always bittersweet seeing a picture or an article about “Aaliyah”. I, for sure, miss that woman sooooo much..a big chunk of my childhood was ripped when she left this world, makes me want to cry..anyway I’m happy he clarified the baby sounds (which by the way oversaturates the background music on AYTS but none the less that song and video will forever be iconic and classic). R*I*P Aaliyah, I love you!!
I miss her too 😭
Ai will give us new Aaliyah in the near future.
I just need to her more from her even if it’s Ai
I thought I was the only one who felt that the baby sound was too much. I still don’t like it, but I’ve learned to tolerate it.

Timbaland’s best work as a producer was Loose by Nelly Furtado and Future S e x Love sounds by JT💅🏾
Both great albums, but that’s subjective. He’s done some amazing songs with Keri Hilson as well.
He certainly has.
You could also argue his best work was with his protégé Danja. He brought the darker sounds to Timbaland production
Keri Hilson’s in a perfect world was full of bops! What a marvelous debut! She needs to team up with Timbaland again with her new album/
