Kelly Rowland Says New Music Is Coming “Soon”: “It’s Time…I Feel the Urgency”

Published: Saturday 10th Jun 2023 by Rashad

Before Kelly Rowland turned heads and dropped jaws as headliner of London’s ‘Mighty Hoopla 2023,’ the diva was causing a hoopla of her own on the promo trail for her role as judge on Audible’s recently premiered ‘Breakthrough‘ – the world’s “first audio-only singing competition series.”

Spotted at ABC News, ‘The Today Show,’ and a number of other outlets in support of the Daveed Diggs-hosted venture,  Rowland may have run the promo gamut for the podcast that’s searching for the next big music superstar but couldn’t escape pressing questions about her own new music.

Having already reiterated the desire for her next album (the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Talk a Good Game’) to be a “surprise drop,” the GRAMMY winner doubled down on the notion in her most recent press run while promising the first taste from the project is coming “soon.”

Taking to ‘Tamron Hall’ recently, Rowland dished on life lessons, motherhood and family, the push for her to portray Queen of Disco Donna Summer in a biopic (6:55 mark), and more.

When quizzed on when her devoted fans (affectionately called #RowlandStones) should expect new music, she emphasized that they’re closer than ever.

“I feel like I don’t want to give it a timeline, but I know it’s soon,” she said after elaborating on how she doesn’t feel tied to a particular music genre (at the video’s 9:00 mark). “I feel the urgency…it’s not that I’m rushing myself, but it’s time. It’s kind of been time…”

Her statement on ‘Tamron’ echoes sentiments she shared on ABC News and ‘New York Live.’

“I do want it to be a surprise. I feel like there’s so much that everyone knows already; I like the idea of spontaneity and mystery when it comes to music,” she told ABC News correspondent Linsey Davis after saying the music is coming “soon” (at the video above’s 5:36 mark).

The yet-titled effort will be her first full body of musical work since dropping 2021’s K‘ EP, which featured the singles ‘Flowers,’ ‘Crazy,’ ‘Hitman,’ and Black Magic.’
