Shakira has been unveiled as the latest recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Set to receive the honor at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards 2023, the announcement has come paired with another major reveal too.

Organizers for the extravaganza, which takes place on September 12 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, trumpeted news of Shakira’s Vanguard honor alongside confirmation that she will also be performing on the night.
Shakira joins a revered list of honorees that includes Beyonce, Pink, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Kanye West, and Jennifer Lopez.
The superstar, whose hits include ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ and ‘Whenever, Wherever,‘ will become only the second Latin artist to be presented with the prized award (Lopez being the first). Further cementing her status as a bonafide trailblazer.
The 2023 VMAs air Tuesday, September 12 at ET/PT on MTV across 180 countries worldwide.

So she was the one who agreed to show up and perform, eh? Ok…
They’ve gave this award to mostly huge 2000’s artist every year. Meanwhile Usher was literally the NUMBER ONE Billboard Hot 100 artist of that decade with the most number one songs. Also Usher was the solo artist with the most successful album of that decade.
Usher should’ve been first to get this damn award. Michael Jackson himself hand pickied Usher to perform his songs and join him on stage for a reason.
I’m still learning to accept that these awards shows will always have some bias and will often fail to get it right.
Wow I’m shocked. I thought it would have been Christina, Katy or Usher. Most were rooting for Gaga, Taylor and Chris brown to get it.
